Musculoskeletal Manual Physiotherapy
Musculoskeletal physiotherapy works with your muscular, skeletal and nervous system to promote health and ability of the anatomy. There are many reasons that the body can start to feel painful and/ or stiff. Whether it be due to an injury or a longer term problem that spirals, physiotherapy facilitates the healing and health of the effected area. Manual physiotherapy is a term used to describe the hands-on application of treatments by the physiotherapist using their hands or physiotherapy tools to enable healing. Manual physiotherapy provides optimal facilitation of tendon, ligament and muscle repair and is perfect for all of those neck, back and shoulder pains, as well as injuries in the rest of the body.
Clinical Sports Massage
Clinical sports massage can be hugely beneficial to everyone! The massage is delivered by a registered physiotherapist who will be able to find problematic areas and work to reduce the root causes of tightness, pain and discomfort using deep tissue massage. Deeper tissue massage also works with the fascial system of the body, which is dense connective tissue that envelopes our whole body.
Muscle ‘Scraping’ Technique
Muscle ‘scraping’ is a treatment technique that allows the precise application of a physiotherapy tool into knotted and injured tissue. It helps to break down adhesions and scar tissue from older injuries that can cause problems such as tightness and pain, by increasing the ability of the tissues to flex and move.
Injury Rehabilitation
Although injury rehabilitation does include manual physiotherapy techniques it is also crucial that it is combined with a rehabilitation plan. This should be appropriate to the stage of healing and also be in keeping with the goal, whether that be to compete athletically or to be able to take the dog out for longer walks. Physiotherapy is delivered at the rate specific to the person and their needs.
Exercise Programming
A physiotherapist is a specialist in exercise programming for strength, conditioning and mechanical correction. This would usually be prescribed to coincide with manual treatments, to promote the best outcome of the therapy as a whole. Your physiotherapist will give you a series of exercises to do in order to produce the results that you are looking for including stretches, strengtheners, balance exercises and, where required, sport specific training.
Balance and Falls Rehabilitation
Balance can be effected by many different issues within the body. Your physiotherapist will assess to find out where the issues are and be able to facilitate bringing those areas back to a more competent and confident level.
Neuro Rehabilitation
Neuro-rehabilitation can be done either at the clinic or in your own home. This is a speciality which deals with brain traumas, spinal traumas or disease processes which effect the brain - all of which can leave you with losses of movement, sensation, ability and balance. Your physiotherapist will be able to work with you to aim to promote as much progress as possible in a safe manner. Common issues that we regularly work with are stroke rehabilitation, MS and brain and spinal injury to name a few.
